WALL TILES
BASEBOARD TILES
1. Latest baseboard tile designs 2021
The wall base is in direct contact with the floor, making it very susceptible to dirt and yellowing from dust and moisture. Therefore, wall bases were previously painted with specialized anti-mold and moisture-resistant paints. However, baseboard tiles have gradually replaced traditional paint due to superior advantages such as high durability, near-perfect waterproofing, easy installation, and diverse colors and designs. Beyond protecting the wall base, they also serve to decorate, beautify, and create an impressive accent for the home.

1.4. Skirting board tiles
Usually, people cut floor tiles into smaller pieces to make skirting tiles (e.g., 1 large 60×60 tile is cut into 6 smaller pieces measuring 10×60, or 1 60×60 tile is cut into 5 smaller pieces measuring 12×60). Almost 90% of the market utilizes this method to produce skirting tiles.

2. Why should you choose living room baseboard tiles?
The wall base is an area prone to impact scratches, dirt accumulation, and mold; using baseboard tiles creates a solid protective barrier, keeping your space looking brand new.
Aesthetically: Selecting baseboard tiles for the living room helps create focal points and clarifies the interior design style.

Regarding quality: Compared to materials such as wallpaper or wall paint, tiles have significantly superior durability, good moisture resistance, stain resistance, and ease of cleaning, resulting in a long lifespan. Using wall tiles helps minimize material and labor costs for the project and reduces future repair expenses.
3. Key notes when choosing baseboard tiles
3.1. Choose tiles by color
Color is always the initial impression when looking at the overall home. Depending on your aesthetic taste, preference, or the main theme color of the room, you can choose baseboard tiles that match or contrast with the wall color and floor tiles.

Baseboard tiles in the same tone as the paint color make the walls appear higher, helping the room feel more spacious. Meanwhile, contrasting colors will create a prominent focal point for the space.

3.2. Baseboard tile dimensions
Currently, popular dimension groups include: 500×900, 120×400, 120×600, 120×800, 150×900, 150×800… along with many other decorative tile and floor tile sizes that can be used for baseboards. Depending on the wall size, ceiling height, and whether you prefer high or low skirting, architects will choose the suitable tile size.
The most appropriate height for standard baseboards is waist-high, while low baseboards are ankle-high.

3.3. Choose recessed or flush/proud baseboard tiles?
There are two main baseboard installation methods: recessed (flush-mount) and proud (surface-mount); depending on preference, homeowners can choose the appropriate approach. However, many customers wonder when to choose recessed skirting and when to choose surface-mounted skirting.
Recessed baseboard tiles
This tiling technique improves the aesthetic appeal of the space, minimizes dust buildup, and facilitates easy cleaning. However, recessed skirting is harder to construct, requiring high skill and precise technique.

Surface-mounted baseboard tiles
The surface-mounted skirting method is more widely used because it is easier to install and offers effective waterproofing. However, compared to recessed installation, its aesthetic effect is not as seamless.
3.4. Should baseboard tiles be installed high or low?
Base the appropriate baseboard tile height on the ceiling design.
- For homes with low ceilings, low baseboard tiling helps create dimensional balance; if you still want a higher tile line, consider using full wall tiles instead (skipping distinct skirting) for a seamless installation.
- Conversely, high baseboard tiling is suitable for houses with high ceilings, helping balance the proportions across design elements.

4. Alternative materials to baseboard tiles
Beyond using tiles for baseboards, the market offers several alternative materials. The advantage of these materials is their low cost and easy installation, but the drawback is lower durability compared to tiles, requiring careful maintenance during use to prolong their lifespan. Additionally, in modern spaces, skirting boards are replaced by specialized wall tiles with beautiful designs. You can also refer to modern bathroom tile designs.
4.1. Plastic / PVC
Made entirely of plastic with an exterior painted coat. The advantage of this type is resistance to termites and moisture, but its impact resistance is poor, and prolonged exposure to dry, hot conditions can cause brittleness and warping.
4.2. Engineered wood
The core is pressed from wood powder, covered by a laminate layer and a layer printed with wood grain or other patterns. This type is easy to recognize because of industrial manufacturing: while outer surfaces differ, the internal wood powder core is usually uniform and distinct from the exterior color.
4.3. Natural wood
The beauty and luxury of natural wood are indisputable, especially when used for baseboards. This natural skirting wood is pre-treated and coated with PU paint for higher gloss and aesthetic appeal. However, because it is natural wood (and even engineered wood), it can suffer from termites and moisture damage. This requires proper maintenance, avoiding direct water contact, and periodic termite treatment.
Today, with outstanding advantages – Wood-look tiles are widely used for flooring or as baseboard tiles to replace natural wood as well as other materials. With advanced printing technology, wood-look tile surfaces closely resemble natural wood with diverse patterns. Meanwhile, the porcelain body gives the tiles superior water resistance, load capacity, and durability over the aforementioned materials.
